Quick Online Tips has a timely reminder: make sure you update your domain contact address in time before someone else grabs it.
I have to admit that I managed to lose a website I’d been running for three years because of this. Events conspired but it was basically my own fault: I happened to be away on vacation, and I had stopped using the contact email I used to originally register the domain. Duh!
To cut to the chase I missed the notices for an expiring domain, forgot that my domain was up for renewal and by the time I came back from vacation it was all too late. Someone else had my domain.
Since then I’ve set all my domains to renew automatically.
