To get the most out of your iPod’s battery:
Ipod 5G

  • make sure you have the latest iPod software installed
  • use the Hold switch so it doesn’t wake accidentally or play songs in your pocket or bag
  • keep the iPod at room temperature - ideally 20° C.
  • let the iPod warm up to room temperature before waking it from sleep.
  • do not leave the iPod in a car when parked in the sun. High temperatures damage the battery.
  • do not charge your iPod while it is in a carrying case or cover.
  • charge iPod when it has fully discharged even if it won’t
  • be used right away.
  • turn off the Equalizer
  • avoid changing tracks, especially by pressing the Previous/Rewind or Next/Fast-forward buttons. Frequently changing tracks by pressing the Previous or Next buttons causes the hard drive to turn on to open the songs and uses a lot of battery power.
  • use compressed songs
  • consider breaking very long songs or tracks into shorter tracks that have smaller file sizes
