As business today becomes more mobile, text messaging will play a larger role in the way we communicate. Tom from OpenLoops has some great tips about how best to go about Text Messaging.

Here are 5 of my favourites:

  1. Don’t replace all communication with texts - Know when to communicate in person, by phone, or email.
  2. Don’t deliver bad news by text – It’s easy to get into a misunderstanding. Bad news should be delivered in a more personable manner.
  3. Texts should be short and sweet – Having to read multi-text messages because you have a lot things to say can be annoying. Summarize and keep it short.
  4. Check the recipient’s number BEFORE you hit “send” - It’s a common error, but sent to the wrong person, a message can have devastating consequences.
  5. Surveys show that many people find the shorthand messages that others send to them as difficult to read and understand. Consider using predictive text software that makes texting faster and less frustrating. Some phones already have this feature built in.
