I use a combination of salt and baking soda on my toothbrush after I "dry brush" my teeth. I use a bit of the baking soda/salt powder to dissolve in saliva and spread the liquid around with the brush to get in-between teeth and into gum pockets where my brush isn't able to reach. The powder itself is abrasive and will remove the enamel from your teeth if not allowed to dissolve, but my aim is to use the antibacterial properties of the salt solution, and the acid neutralizing effects of the baking soda. Drinking sodas and eating citrus fruits and juices can soften tooth enamel if allowed to remain in contact with teeth. Bacteria that cause tooth decay also produce organic acids which wear away the tooth enamel to cause cavities. A baking soda solution can neutralize these acids and allow the tooth enamel to stay strong.

I guess if you had low iron you could eat chicken livers, although they are very high in cholesterol they have great iron content. I always ate them after swimming practice to regain strength.

Anyway I have heard that eating baking soda helps cure acne, which I am not sure if that is true really. I know using it topically in a mask will make the skin soft. I use baking soda also to clean my fish tank plants then rinse it off, it is not harmful to fish in small amounts like soap or other cleaners would be.

mm... I eat baking soda daily (a couple of times a day) and I have low iron. Yes it's addicting but it tastes so good. I've been hearing that it can cause health problems but some people that I know that eat it dont have anything wrong with them.

Just a small correction. Concerning this part:

"(also for canker sores, don't eat acidic type foods eg. tomatoes, oranges, etc. for awhile)"

Tomatoes are actually alkaline, not acidic. It's a bit surprising what is and isn't acidic.

Eating too much Baking Soda causes osteoporosis, kidney stones, nausea, vomitting, slow breathing, swelling of feet and legs. It also affects the lining of her stomach. It strips away the calcium out of the body into her urine which causes kidney stones. So please tell her to stop using so much as soon as possible. If she has low iron, she can raisins or take a iron supplement. For more information on how Baking Soda affects the human body, go to www.askjeeves.com and type in "What are the Side effects of Baking Soda? And this will take you to a website that further talks about this.
