There have been a lot of image to icon converters since the days when Windows finally allowed users to customize icons. Like for vainglorious people who’d like their smug mugshots as their My Computer icon.
For some pros, it’d be a lot easier to just use a file format plug-in for programs like Photoshop to save customized images as ICO files. However, for the common users who can’t afford to pay $600 for such a high-end application, we’d have to be content with freeware. Good thing a lot of them can do the job.
Among the freeware image to icon converters, I find Imagicon one of the handiest for the job. It has a simple drag-and-drop interface that lets you convert BMP, PNG, JPG and ICO to ICOs with either one of these preset resolutions – 16 x 16, 32 x 32, 48 x 48, 64 x 64 and 128 x 128.
Even with a simple interface it’s got some added features like image size scaling, set to custom sizes, image flipping and set alpha transparencies. It even allows multiple file conversions for a faster process. And it works from Windows 98 to Vista (another yey!).
