We’ve featured this nice DVD ripping utility called Handbrake. It’s probably one of the most versatile DVD rippers that you can get for free out there not because it has the most features but it’s because you can use it on three different platforms -Linux, Windows, and Mac.

Version 0.9 now features the following.

• Re-envisioned Mac interface and a rebuilt from ground up Windows interface.
• Improved picture quality through scaling, deinterlacing, new filters, and new presets devoted to high quality settings.
• Speed improvements due to updated copies of x264 and ffmpeg plus an improved multi-threaded encoding for the iPod.
• Compatibility is improved through new presets for devices like the iPhone and PSP.

Good thing they’ve re-done the Windows interface because the old one was plain ugly. I haven’t really used any DVD rippers for quite some time now but if ever I need to pop out one, I’ll be reaching for Handbrake.
