Have you ever wondered why the big bad wolf was bad? Well, he was hungry; who wouldn’t be in the same mood? Come on, admit it, you suddenly become inexplicably irritable when you’re hungry. The connection just seems natural. You only know you have to grab and consume everything out of that cookie jar. Read on, and know which foods will take care of the rumbling in your tummy.
Eating has a general effect of causing happiness to people. Aside from overcoming hunger and malnutrition, eating has become a highly pleasurable experience. One classic example of food triggering an utter change in a person’s mood is the one food we are all addicted to – chocolate. Have you ever wondered why people crave chocolate when they are in a state of depression? Chocolate has become a standard and a commodity for broken-hearted lovers, for students who failed the finals, and for children who’s been punished.
Another food which could help lighten up your mood would be fish. In one scientific research, it was found that the oils in fish particularly Mackerel and Salmon seem to help people who are currently “down in the dumps”.
Sweets for the sour-faced. As always, there will always be sugar, which is sure to perk up a gloomy disposition. Sugar has an intense effect especially on children, making them all excited and frenzied. This is probably why babysitters are instructed by parents not to give sweets to children when it’s near bedtime because it’ll be hard calming them down.
Beware of binge eating. While eating can make you feel happy, monitor yourself if you are binge eating. Such behavior can be due to psychological issues like depression. Binge eating is unhealthy so while eating may perk you up, your mood is bound to be crushed again if you don’t address the issue.
