Perhaps one thing that I don’t like about Firefox is the status bar. It just plainly shows you the page’s loading progress. It’s a good thing it has become one of the common places for your installed extensions to hang out. But for a power user like me, just showing the progress bar and notifying me with “Done” when the page has finished loading is quite lame. Even the throbber tells you that.
I really love for my status bar to contain some really handy information about the page I’m browsing and Firefox’s system resource utilization. So here are two extensions that can beef up the status bar with a lot of information.
Extended Statusbar
Extended Statusbar provides you with just a bit more information about the page that you’re browsing. It includes these probably helpful information:
Download Extended Statusbar here.
StatusbarEx
StatusbarEx gives you more in-depth information about Firefox in relation to your system. It shows you the following information:
You need the Microsoft Visual C++ 8.0 Runtime Library for this one to work though.

1[...] Windows with Firefox: StatusbarEx adds system stats to the Firefox status bar, like Firefox’s memory usage, your overall CPU usage, your network adapter’s speed, your power status, and the time the page you’re visiting was last updated. StatusbarEx makes excellent use of a portion of the Firefox UI that traditionally goes unused – the only bummer is it requires the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime to work. Otherwise, StatusbarEx is a free download for Windows (with Firefox.) StatusbarEx [Mozilla via Life Spy] [...]

2Why bog down Firefox, more than it already is? I mean, I love the ‘fox and all, but the mem/CPU usage is annoying….why add another extension that could be installed as a system program/utility?

3It’s more of an issue of seeing the information right there on the Statusbar. You can always use the Task Manager if you want. But some people just want to save on keystrokes.
Yes, Firefox is a resource hog. I, for one, don’t use too many extensions to prevent FF from taking up too much memory. Depends on your use actually.

4Thanks for the tip about Extended Status bar. Could you tell more about how this information would be useful? How to use this information?
