Notice that if you make a text selection in Firefox and hit right-click, you’ll see a ‘Search for‘ option there. My browser uses Google as search engine so it says “Search Google for *insert selected text here*.”
This is a great time-saver instead of copying and pasting your selection to your search bar. But as you can see the limitation, it only uses Google to search while in your search bar, you have all sorts of other search engines (you can even download more) to choose from.
Context Search is a Firefox add-on that expands that feature to include various search options. So now, basically, you’re not limited to everyone’s favorite search engine - Google. Besides, what if you want to search for things on Amazon or eBay, right?
