It’s really the faddish thing to do nowadays but Flash sucks in terms of accessibility. Flash animations (used in banners and ads) can take too long to load. And they can be quite annoying when all you need is a piece of information (like a line of text perhaps). If you’re not really into Flash-designed websites then this add-on is specifically for you – Flashblock.
It’s a simple add-on that prevents Flash (SWFs) from opening on a loaded page by default. You can still be able to view it by a simple click.
Caveat: May cause frequent crashes on Firefox 2.0 due a bug in the core Firefox code. View the details here.

1And they use up all CPU due to lame swf coding esp. when having many tabs open
