One of the ways Firefox offers a faster browsing experience is that it has a pre-load feature that will download pages behind the links that you might click. I don’t know how Firefox does this but it does.

So if you’re just coursing through a page, you might just be wasting bandwidth and hard drive space since you might not visit all those pages anyway. The feature’s enabled by default so you might want to turn it off. Here’s how.

  • Access the about:config page (here’s how).
  • Find the network.prefetch-next key.
  • By default, it’s set to TRUE.
  • Double-click it to change it to a FALSE value

That’s all there is to it. Now, you’ll now be saving on bandwidth, hard drive space, and CPU usage.
