It’s not so often that billionaires get to write something for us, common folk. In an article for BBC Business, Bill Gates writes about the skills that a person needs to succeed today.
Today and in the future, many of the jobs with the greatest impact will be related to software, whether it is developing software working for a company like Microsoft or helping other organisations use information technology tools to be successful.
Oh and he just can’t resist dropping his company’s name. Still, there are a lot of things that I have to agree with Bill. Everyone needs IT skills. Whether it’s operating a cashier register or some fanciful 3D design software, workers from all sorts of fields definitely will have an advantage over others if they have a solid background in IT.
Being a discourse analyst by trade, I do appreciate the fact that I have had a solid training in mathematics and the sciences during my grammar school and high school years. My learning allowed me to delve into fields through self-training. Observing how the job market is nowadays, one will not be able to really be competitive without IT skills.
So if you’re still wondering how to work a word processor, then better start learning now.
