About two weeks ago, I wrote about companies investing on document management. It’s really disturbing how an employee could be so isolated in a cubicle. Lack of collaboration from within can really hurt a company.

How much investment must a company make to start out with collaborative software? Not much. using freeware is definitely a good way to go for small enterprises who would want to give collaboration and document management a go.

Here’s one that you can use: DeskNow Lite. And it’s got the basics of mail and document management down pat. Here are the things it can do:

  • SMTP and POP3 mail server
  • Advanced Web mail and spam filtering
  • Store and share documents online (document management)
  • Unlimited Web calendars and combined views
  • Java-based instant messenger

The upgraded Pro version can provide access to mobile devices, a secure IM, and remote access. It’s pretty easy to setup so you might want to give it a try. It’s a hefty 53MB download though a beefy Internet connection is a must. You can download it here.
