After the horrors of Super Size Me, I would never know if we really have wizened up on the bad effects of fast food. I, for one, can only recall having eaten only a single burger from MacDonald’s for the past five months. Paying strict attention to my diet has helped me lose 10 lbs already.
While helping ourselves is probably the best way to go about healthy eating, it’s nice to hear that some companies are now making initiatives to make their grease-laden, artery-blocking food a bit healthier. Burger King is one of the joints shifting to healthier cooking alternatives with trans-fat free cooking oil.
Here’s what the BK press release has to say:
Burger King Corp. announced today that the company has begun the rollout of a trans fat free cooking oil to its restaurants in the United States. Two trans fat free oil blends have passed the company’s rigorous operational, supply and consumer criteria, allowing the company to begin the national rollout.
The company expects that every U.S. restaurant will be using trans fat free cooking oil by the end of 2008. If adequate supply becomes available, the U.S. rollout of trans fat free oils could be completed substantially sooner.
Cheers to BK for this little move. Still no reason to down five burgers and ten large fries in one sitting though.

1Whilst this is, of course, great news and highly welcomed - I am positive the most important aspect of a more healthy lifestyle is exercise.
The tightest, most salad-filled life is pointless when you spend the day on a couch/chair. I personally work all day (freelancer, so often 16-18 hours a time) at a computer (iMac, of course!). This doesn’t leave much opportunity for moving around - at first look.
But now, I bike first thing in the morning. It’s currently 04.09am here near London, and in 20 minutes I am off cycling roughly 15 miles for a couple of hours. I have no need to count the calories lost - I am not a statistician, numbers are of no value to me. I judge the effect by mood, and ‘loss of bulge’.
I seriously appeal to everyone that getting some exercise, maybe not the same amount as I am currently, first thing in the morning - for at least 15 minutes - will boost your mood, and general ‘health feel’ no end. In no uncertain or flimsy terms, it will change your days. Completely.
Nice blog by the way - keep it up! Found via Apple Gazette, and equally entertaining read. Thanks!

2Thanks, Matt.
Exercise does help a lot. As for me, I do have another schedule to keep as I teach in a university here. What I try to do is to minimize the number of rides I have to take and walk. While walking isn’t the best calorie burning activity, it does help me do some physical activity apart from being hunched over and blogging.
