Saunas have been proven to promote health and fitness. It relieves stress and improves circulation. However, don’t be misled to think that saunas are all benefits. As with anything, excess is bad.
Overexposure to saunas can lead to fainting, stroke, sudden drops in blood pressure and even dehydration after a really long stay inside one.
A sharp change in temperature (like if you exit a sauna then stay somewhere really cool) can cause a rise in blood pressure. This can cause strain on the heart. People with heart ailments should take precautions to avoid these.
A few precautions that could help would be avoiding alcohol before entering the sauna (alcohol dehydrates the body) and only spend a maximum of 15 minutes in one. If you feel dehydrated or thirsty, it’s your body’s way of saying that it’s time to go.
