Within moments, a fire can instantly claim everything you have – your home, your personal belongings, your family, and even your life. Incidents of fire are as common as heavy traffic and a single mistake / negligence in electrical wiring, for example, can leave you homeless in the blink of an eye. The best thing to do is to take up necessary precautions that will ensure safety in the midst of all fire dangers. There is also an increased risk of fire during the holidays with all the preparations and cooking in the kitchen, fireplaces lit, and the tons of lights and decors.
The ABC extinguisher is your best anti-fire friend. You need to setup fire extinguishers in areas where fire is most likely to occur like the kitchen. If you can, put up fire extinguishers in the living room and the garage as well. Put it where everyone can see it so that even guests can stop a fire threat when it happens.
Observe proper use and maintenance of electrical equipment. Extension cords wear out. Check for damages every now and then to know if it needs replacement. Appliances should be properly monitored when in use, but more so if it’s not in use. Fire incidents have happened where appliances have been left on or plugged even when not in use. It is not so much on paranoia to always unplug all electrical appliances than a precaution. It’s better to be safe than to be sorry.
Given that there are some holiday like wreaths and decors with candles, avoid instances where you forget the candle you lit. In such conditions, check all lit candles to make surse no such thing is left burning to endanger your home. Train your kids as early as possible never to play with fire and electrical wirings.
