Russet

Mmm… Baked potatoes. Nothing like a fluffy baked spud. What’s nice about it is that it’s so easy to make. The only thing about it is the long wait while it’s baking. But do it right and you know that it’s all worth it. Here’s how you bake a potato.

What you need:

  • Russet potato
  • Canola oil
  • A bit of salt

What to do:

  • Wash the potato with a brush under running water. Clean out any mud caked on the spud.
  • Preheat the oven at 350* F
  • Poke holes in the potatoes with a fork. This will let some steam out to get that fluffy texture.
  • Coat the potato’s skin with some oil this will allow . I remember Alton Brown also said this regulates the moisture inside.
  • Rub some salt on the potato to give it some flavor.
  • It takes about 1 hour for a spud to bake.
  • You can tell it’s done if the skin feels soft just under skin.
  • Score the potato with an X then squeeze the sides toward the middle to serve.
