Discount

Savings can come from all sorts of things – pennypinching, living frugally, discounts, rebates, but one area that you can really make a lot of savings is knowing how to spend wisely. A bulk of our spending comes from purchases – food, commodities, staples, and luxuries. The key is to be a sensible buyer. Here are some tips on how to be a wiser and more sensible buyer.

  • Be patient. Take your time before closing the deal. Confining yourself to one stall or store limits your freedom to choose from a wide variety of products and stores. Be sure that you’ve made surveys of the product, brands, and prices before zeroing in on one that you’d buy.
  • When comparing prices, always take into consideration the quality, design, and features that you would actually use. Sometimes we tend to gun for the one with the most features that can be overkill for home use. And prices are often beefed up with the features so you might be spending unnecessarily.
  • Check out online deals and postings. You can sometimes find a wider variety of products through craigslist or eBay. Just check out other possible expenses like shipping. If those raise the prices, you might just be better off buying from your local store.
  • Always check out the warranties and after-sales benefits. For items like appliances and electronics these are a must. You think you might be getting something a lot cheaper but you might be buying something with a shorter warranty or without any warranty at all.
  • Always check the economy of buying bulk. Some things you can score a better deal buying bulk, like consumables. Here’s a tip, try pooling your purchase with friends or family. The more you buy, the more bargaining chances you have for really good discounts.
  • Anticipate your needs so that you can select which items on sale you could actually take advantage of. Clearances and sales happen occasionally but avoid buying items that you won’t be using for a long time. The reason why stores mostly do these clearance sales is to get rid of old stock from the passing season.
  • Avoid impulse buying at all costs. Stick to the plan. When in the supermarket, always bring a shopping list for you to strictly follow.
  • Buy used items. Many a bargain I’ve scored by scouring the second-hand market. Flea markets and garage sales are a great place to search for bargains.
