Kiwi Fruit

If you’re new to kiwi fruit (or simply kiwis), they’re the 2-3 inch long fuzzy brown fruit with a lime green flesh.

Ripe ones often feel the same as ripe peaches. As long as you keep them inside your refrigerator, kiwi can stay fresh for a couple (even more) weeks. If you’ve bought them firm, just leave them on the counter top at room temperature and they’d riped in around 3-5 days.

Fresh kiwi fruit are usually available in markets from June to March. To check for ripeness, give it a very gentle squeeze. Ripe ones give slightly to the touch. While the skin is edible, it is usually the flesh that’s eaten.

A few facts about kiwi. They’re a really good source of Vitamin C and dietary fiber and very low in calories. Kiwi fruit can also be used for certain fruit preparations where kiwi is used a meat tenderizer.
