Some would say that cleaning non-stick pans is a breeze. Sure it is. Not much can really stick on it’s slick surface. So not much of an effort in terms of scrubbing cooked on crud. But easy to use as they are, non-stick pans still need some care. In fact, they do require a bit more care than your good old cast iron. Here are some tips on non-stick pan care.
-
Avoid using metal utensils on the surface since some non-stick pans can scratch easily. It’s better to use plastic or wood to avoid damaging your non-stick pan.
-
Yes, they are easy to clean. Just soak the pan in hot, sudsy water and clean with a soft nylon scrubber. Don’t use abrasive cleaners, especially steel wool! Or else, you can kiss your non-stick pan goodbye.
- Still, somethings can crust on a non-stick surface, If you happen to encounter such a thing, fill it with water, add two tablespoons of dishwashing detergent. Simmer the pan until the crust loosens.
-
If you are still using pans coated with Teflon, better throw them away. Teflon produces fumes when they burn dry. Newer non-stick pans use anodized aluminum (Calphalon) instead.
