If there are areas in your house that can get greasy, chances are, it’d be your garage floor next only perhaps to your deep fryer or range top if you’re a frying fiend. Oil spots can form from occasional oil drips and spills on the garage floor since cars often leak a small amount of oil. Here are some ideas on cleaning them out.
- You can clean small grease spots up by using dishwashing liquid and warm water. Just wash the area and wipe dry.
- For a tougher spot applying paint thinner first before sprinkling some absorbent stuff like sand. Just be sure to open up windows and the garage door to allow air to circulate. Fumes can be bad for you.
- Some alternatives that you can use if you don’t have sand available would be cat litter, baking soda and cut strips of newspaper. Let the grease soak up overnight and sweep the litter or sand up the next morning.
- Grease spots can also be really stubborn. That’s when you may try using stronger chemicals like bleach. Use disposable rags or newspaper to soak the excess liquid. Just remember, wear protective gloves when handling such strong chemicals.
