So your pet’s an active little creature and you’re worried that it might just scamper off to nowhere. Losing a pet that way is quite disheartening. Pardon me for being a bit morbid here, but a lost pet gives you that sense of hope and longing that’s quite stronger than having your pet go to doggie or kitty heaven. In any case, disasters like losing your pet happen so here are some tips to help you
It’s a must for all pet owners to equip your dogs and cats with a strong and durable collar tagged with your name, address and telephone number. Make sure it fits snugly but not too tight that it irritates your pet. As a guide, just make sure it doesn’t slip off the pet’s head.
As far as collars go, there’s a variety to choose from. You can now even avail of hi-tech gadgetry like those equipped with GPS tracking devices which eliminates all the fuss of actually tracking your dog since you just have to follow the signal.
However, just in case you don’t have the resources to strap a GPS collar to your dog and your dog gets lost, you still have a chance of finding them. Work outward from the last spot where you last saw your pet. Search in widening circles constantly calling out its name. Dogs would often come to you call. Cats, being the craftier bunch may prove to be more of a challenge. Pets often love to hide in dark places around your home. Search with a flashlight. Pets’ eyes (especially cats) are very reflective and will help you in locating them.
If you believe that your pet has taken off, inform your local pound and animal welfare. Inform your neighbors, post notices, even publish an ad in the newspaper. Include details and a picture if possible. If your pet really means much to you, offering a reward would be a good way to prompt people to find and return your pet. You may also inquire with mail people and delivery guys who might see strays while in their routes.
