Feeling trapped in sort of a time-space warp? Head feeling like it’s floating some place else? That’s jet lag all right. The bane of every jetsetter, unless, of course, you’ve developed some sort of immunity against it. But just in case you’re prone to get one and you can’t get rid of it no matter how strong a coffee you take, then read on for some tips on dealing with jet lag especially during business trips.
Coping with jet lag 100% would really depend on your duration in other time zones. One trick would be to use your fancy new watch’s ability to store times for different time zones and try to go about your day in your home’s time. Carry a spare watch if your watch doesn’t have this function.
Stay in hotels with 24-hour service and dining so that just in case your sleeping hours and stomach still functions based on your own time zone, you can still enjoy rest and food.
Your schedule should also be optimized to accommodate your functions. If you will be staying for a week’s time or more, try to settle in for a day or two first. That means no hardcore and critical meetings of work should be done within that time frame.
But just in case there are urgent matters to deal with, schedule them right after you arrive (provided that it is still within the time zone’s business day). Chances are you’re still alert and functioning quite well.
To help condition your body, avoid taking in anything alcoholic or caffeinated. Anything that alters you body chemistry and affect your sleep should be avoided. Take plenty of rest and don’t agitate yourself too much during the flight. Wear comfortable clothing too.
