When you’re been working in the kitchen and dealing with food items that tend to smell (i.e. seafood, garlic and onions), the odors tend to stick to your hands. Plain soap and water would seldom do the trick. And just going about your daily business with some strong odors lingering in your hands may be quite embarrassing.

Here are some possible ways to get rid off those smells:

  • Dishwashing liquid - There’s a reason dishwashing liquid keeps your dishes odor-free. Try it and find the same effect done with your hands. Works too if your dishwashing liquid has some fragrances like lemon.
  • Lemon – Dice a lemon and put it in a bowl of water. Scrub your hands in the bowl with the lemon. The acid in the lemon helps break down the odors in your hand.
  • Stainless steel soap - It’s mostly for decorative uses but somehow it does work. Scrub your hands with stainless steel. A possible scientific explanation is that the sulfuric compounds that cause odors stick to stainless steel. Could actually work with the sink or a spoon too.
  • Baking Soda – Another use of baking soda. Just mix with a bit of water in a bowl. Scrub your hands in the solution.

Rinse and dry and check if any odors still linger.
