So it just might be out of season but I was sorting out stuff in the garage and found my old fishing reel. Sorry for the wave of nostalgia but I figured I’d write this post. Thought perhaps you can do something new yet classic? How about signing up for fishing lessons! Fishing can be fun, not to mention relaxing. It’s one activity you can do for hours, while sitting comfortably. So grab your hat, a bucket and you’re all set to catch some fish.
Go to a local bait shop and check out where you can go fish. Ask about fishing locations which would be best for beginners like you. Chatting up the store owner might also gain you a few basic techniques from the pro.
Ask for guidance in getting your fishing gear. You’ll need rod-and-reel and hooks. If you’re not sure about using hooks just yet, use a casting plug. You can practice first before using a real hook.
The gross part of fishing involves worms and minnows. Now you can’t get away from these, because these two are the best baits you can use. You better get used to your fishing allies, because they’re going to help you catch fish. You’ll need a lot, so make sure you bring your hand soap so you can clean your hands after..
Bring your kids along. This could not be the time for you to show your kids you’re good in everything, since all of you are technically beginners. But if you like the idea of learning together, then you can buy your kids their own kiddie fishing gear.
Safety first. If your idea of fishing includes a boat, make sure you have your life jackets. If it’s sunny, you might want to bring sunscreen and a jug of drinking water.
Learn the proper baits. There are a lot of custom-made lures and tackles available in stores. Choosing yours will depend on what types of fish you’d like to score. Ask the local shop on which ones work best for the fishes you have in the area.
Know how to cast. Overhead and sidearm throws are the most common casting techniques. Be very careful though as any rogue hook can seriously injure people.
Patience. Fishing is a waiting game. Don’t yank on the rod or be harsh with the reel when you get a bite. You might have to give the fish a bit of a fight to wear it out before you can finally land it.
