Most women (and some men) of my acquaintance adore perfumes. But I don’t think they know more than just the act of spritzing them. Like wine, perfumes should be properly stored, or else they lose their “spirit” only perfumes are mostly oil-based. In any case, perfume’s scent can still be altered by a lot of factors. Here’s a quick guide on how to preserve perfume.
Different factors such as light and affect the quality and longevity of a perfume’s scent. As much as possible, perfumes should be stored in places where they cannot be exposed to direct sunlight or any source of heat.
Use perfume once its bottle is opened. Oxygen that is present in an opened bottle of perfume will also alter the character of the scent. When not in use, keep perfumes in their original packaging or light-tight aluminum bottles. If you have the means, transfer perfume in spray bottles or those with roller tops. These containers will minimize oxygen exposure.
Try preserving them in the fridge at a relatively low temperature between 3-7 degrees Celsius. Dust will also alter the perfume’s smell character so keep those dust-cloths in hand.
