I've been buying great mangoes from a backyard gardener- big fruit, small pits, incredibly tasty. Now I'll try the paper towel in a baggy tactic to see if I can get a pit to sprout. Thanks for all the good hints.

Hi : I have planted the pit of a Mango (after eating the fruit) and what I did was this -----

Take the pit and put it in some good quality potting soil in a pot with a tray under it (Make sure the pot has holes for the water to drain into the tray.
Water the pot until the water starts to fill the tray
then place the tray and pot on top of the hot water tank (cause it's always nice and toasty there)

keep the soil moist and it should sprout with-in a few days .
after it gets a couple of leaves sprouting ,move it to a south or west window and keep it moist and let it establish itself until you can move it to a larger pot.
I did this with a Pineapple and Fig (with success) and have a great housplant s
