Slugs are a gardener’s nightmare. You’ve done your work planting all your new plants or seedlings then you wake up the next day and you see them chewed-off by slugs. Here are some tips on how to slug-proof your garden:
Slugs and snails have natural enemies like frogs, centipedes, beetles and bird. Build a bird house or a toad house to build an natural community of slug exterminators in your garden.
Beer is such a good thing! Dig a dish into the soil and fill it with beer (leftover or even stale ones). This would attract slugs. They’ll just slide in the beer and “drown.” Fish out the dead slugs the next day.
Make the terrain harsh for them! Spread dry soot, dry lime, or even crushed eggshells around your pant bed. Some alternative “barriers” are human hair, rough sand, and even calcified seaweed.
Well, an alternative is to purchase and use chemical pastes and pellets. A popular one is Ortho Bug Geta Plus Snail, Slug & Insect Killer. Another one is EscarGo. However, as with any chemical product, you have to be wary of harming other garden wildlife and in some cases, pets!
