Martini

For James Bond fanatics out there, you’d know that the martini is probably Bond’s favorite cocktail. Yeah, and you know how he likes it too with that famous line “Shaken, not stirred.” There’s a lot of cocktail drinks that are all called martini and there’s whole lot of other recipes. And guess, what, traditional martinis are always stirred.

Here are a few martini recipes.

What you need:

  • 2 1/2 oz gin
  • 1/2 oz dry vermouth
  • 1 green olive for garnish (a lemon twist is sometimes disputed as either acceptable and unacceptable)
  • ice
  • a mixing glass
  • martini glasses

What to do:

  • Put some ice in a mixing glass.
  • Pour the ingredients.
  • Stir until the you see the ice starting to melt.
  • Strain the mix.
  • Pour into martini glasses
  • Garnish with the olive (or the lemon peel).

Now if you’ve watched Casino Royale, you’d know that it breaks Bond tradition with Bond not caring a bit about how his martini’s done. But if watched it too, you’d notice one part where he concocts a custom drink of his own. It’s called the Vesper martini and its ingredients are:

  • 3 measures of Gordon’s Gin
  • 1 measure of vodka
  • 1/2 measure Kina Lillet
  • a large thin slice of lemon peel

Prepare just the same. And let the martini experts slug it out.

As for other martini variations (to the ire of martini purists) here are some of them:
