How to Make Chocolate Syrup

Melted Chocolate

Everybody has got to love chocolate. Well, save dieters perhaps. There are so many varieties and forms of chocolate that you just have to pick your poison. One of my favorites – chocolate syrup. I used to be addicted to Hershey’s. So how about making it on your own. Making it this way even saves you around 5 cents per ounce.

What you need:

  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla

What to do:

  • Mix the cocoa and water in a saucepan
  • Heat and stir to dissolve the cocoa
  • Add the sugar and stir again until it dissolves
  • Add the salt and vanilla
  • Store in an sterile airtight jar

They key to this recipe is to use LOW heat. give the cocoa a few minutes to melt after its initial breakdown. stir continuously. when adding the sugar, ad it a little at a time, and stir until dissolved, then add more, and continue.

    Mine turned out great.
