Whole Wheat Crackers

Mmm… Homemade whole-wheat crackers. Perfect for a cold night with some coffee or tea or some hot cocoa. Remember, whole-wheat’s got some natural fibers so it helps aid in digestion too. Here’s the recipe (I just got to love the recipe notecards here at home).

What you need:

  • 1 1/2 cups of whole-wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups white flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ

What to do:

  • Sift the flour (whole-wheat and white), sugar, salt and baking soda together.
  • Add in the butter. For a faster mix, you may use a food processor and process until it forms a ball.
  • Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  • Cut the dough to 4 parts.
  • Grease a cookie sheet and sprinkle with some wheat germ.
  • Roll each dough part on the cookie sheet.
  • Sprinkle with salt.
  • Cut into squares (or diamonds) with a pastry wheel.
  • Bake at 350* F for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Let it cool before storing.
