Mmm… Homemade whole-wheat crackers. Perfect for a cold night with some coffee or tea or some hot cocoa. Remember, whole-wheat’s got some natural fibers so it helps aid in digestion too. Here’s the recipe (I just got to love the recipe notecards here at home).
What you need:
- 1 1/2 cups of whole-wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cups white flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup wheat germ
What to do:
- Sift the flour (whole-wheat and white), sugar, salt and baking soda together.
- Add in the butter. For a faster mix, you may use a food processor and process until it forms a ball.
- Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
- Cut the dough to 4 parts.
- Grease a cookie sheet and sprinkle with some wheat germ.
- Roll each dough part on the cookie sheet.
- Sprinkle with salt.
- Cut into squares (or diamonds) with a pastry wheel.
- Bake at 350* F for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Let it cool before storing.
