How could you miss your meeting with an important client? How could you have forgotten that last Tuesday was your dentist appointment? You set these appointments because you planned on meeting these important people at the set time. Never miss another appointment again by following these easy steps.
Use your planner. Get one and use it. Every time you agree to meet someone you should write it down. Some people tend to write appointments on post-its or small pieces of paper but these usually get lost or thrown away. Consult your planner every day to check if there are any appointments you have set for the week. This way, you will have an idea how busy you will be for that week. Also, whenever someone wants to set an appointment with you, get your planner and consult it to see if you are free on the proposed time.
Don’t plan them too close to each other. If you have more than one engagement in a day, make sure they won’t conflict. Some meetings take longer than the expected time. Make sure you have enough time to prepare for your next appointment, especially if your next one is in another part of the city.
Tell someone about the appointment. Unless you have a personal secretary or assistant, telling someone else in your family or in your office that you have an appointment first thing Monday morning can prove to be an advantage. This way, when you unknowingly set another one that conflicts it, that person might say, “Hey, don’t you have a meeting around that time, too?”
Don’t set more than you can handle. Sometimes you miss appointments not because you forgot them but because you can’t get to them. Too tired for the next meeting? Then maybe you shouldn’t have set it in the first place. Knowing what you can handle in a day or in a week can save you from disappointing your clients or whoever it is you are supposed to meet. There are several working days in a week so allocate your meetings so you can meet each one on time.
Whether it’s an office meeting or a lunch with a friend, meeting with someone when you promised to builds character. Don’t feel guilty having wasted someone else’s time by successfully meeting all your appointments in a day!
