Anyone can be a pack rat given a certain mindset. It’s all about making use of the available space the best way you can. Pretty tricky, but here are some steps to get you started:
- Install shelves above you bathroom’s commode to hold towels and bathroom accessories.
- Use a pegboard to hang up items like utilities, pots and pans in the kitchen.
- A combination of pegs on the pegboard can hold longer pieces of equipment like brooms, shovels, and other with longer handles.
- Invest on some stackable containers.
- Part ways with all unnecessary stuff. Some things may have too much sentimental attachment but if it just gathers dust in the attic or basement, better have them recycled or even hold a garage sale.
- Living solo? Try using a futon instead of a bed which you can roll up during the day. It’s good for the back too.
- Transfer contents from jars to smaller containers when you’ve consumed a good part of it to reclaim so fridge and shelf space.
- Store bulky winter clothing in luggage bags. It’ll be a year until you use them again. And why not use luggage bags for temporary storage if you don’t travel too often?
- Store within storage. If you’ve got some containers (Tupperware, pots, pans…) that can fit into other unused containers, fit them in a la Russian dolls.
