There have been plenty of sitcoms featuring couples bickering over paint jobs at home. Usually they end up wrestling over buckets of paint for a whole messy finale. But seriously, picking colors for your home isn’t just about who likes what. If you end up not getting to decide because of preferences, then try deciding over purpose. Colors do have some function to them. Read on for some tips.
Colors and Size
Light colors provides that airy atmosphere which is great if you want to give the room a sense of space. Painting smaller rooms with light colors can make is look a lot cozier and wider. As for dark colors, they can do the opposite. They tend to make a room look smaller. To prevent a large room to be too airy, paint it with darker tones.
Colors and Lighting
Light shades also help reflect light. So if a room relies mostly on artificial light, paint the room with pale colors.
Colors and Moods
Bright colors – Bright primary colors can make eyes restless. So if you have other people in the house or have people over, it may not be too practical to paint the walls bright colors. Paint them with neutral or pastel shades. If you still want bright colors, then have them on room accents the furniture, decorations and drapery.
Neutral grays and browns – These colors supposedly inspire efficiency. So try to use it in your home office.
Nature colors – Sceneries of the sea, sky and pastures help you relax. So why not simulate these through colors of blues and greens. These colors give you a sense of calm.
