Bathroom

If you are planning on home improvements, one thing that you might want to consider remodeling is your bathroom. Everyone should enjoy a nice long soak or a cool shower after a day’s work. Many people tend to underestimate the comforts of having a great bathroom but if you’re up to it, then why not make your bathroom a better place for everyone at home.

Purpose

If you think the swankier, the better, think again. The first consideration that you have to put into your design is purpose. Ask yourself who will be using the bathroom. Do you live with other people? On your own? Any children? Old folks? These factors would definitely lend to the choice of layout, fixtures and materials to be used in your bathroom.

Families who have to deal with morning rituals and a lot of users would appreciate having a lot of storage space. Slip-proof matting will be appreciated by older people and kids. A stool for the sink can be placed to aide kids to reach the sink safely.

Planning and Design

If you’re having problems wit how to design your bathroom, a consult with an architect or an interior designer (if you have the spare cash) might be a good option. If you are into large remodeling project you can simply suggest this to your professional.

Check your existing fixtures first. Completely revamping you bathroom may require the plumbing to be redone and that will definitely cost you much more.

Consider everything in your layout, even the window. The key to bathroom windows is to make sure that it allows optimal lighting without causing too much glare with the tiles and glass inside the bathroom. If you plan to be more economical, a shower over the bath will pretty much suffice.
If you have a lot of people using the bath, you might want to opt for a bath plus an enclosed shower cubicle so that it will allow two people to take baths simultaneously.

In any case, one of the biggest concerns with this should be the color and fixtures. Mixing and matching different style-fixtures may just make your bathroom a mess. If you plan to make it your zen getaway, there are a lot of desigs today that can instantly turn you bathroom into a mini-spa even if you don’t put in a fancy jacuzzi. Just make sure that everything fits to your theme - taps, knobs and all.

Buying

If you’ve settled with the plan and design, the next thing to do is to have everything purchased. Set a budget. Even with a theme, you will be able to find substitute materials for a lower cost but you have to avoid the trap of finding the perfect pieces to complement your theme. Sometimes, preset themed bathroom packages can run more than if you select individual items.

The installation can be done by your contractor. Remember that a bathroom requires a lot of pluming and tile wizardry so it takes someone skilled to actually go for DIY.
