Baby

SIDS is mostly linked to infant boys. Babies who are most in danger of getting this syndrome are preemies, of low birth weight, and those who are exposed to cigarette smoke. According to experts, SIDS victims are unable to wake themselves up when experiencing breathing difficulties. Babies of 2 to 4 months old are at most risk, but parents have to protect their babies from this syndrome until the age of 1.

The right way to position your baby to sleep is to put your baby down on his back. This position increases the baby’s access to fresh air. This also reduces the tendency to get overheated. Infants seem to like sleeping on their stomachs, and they also seem to sleep better when they do, but this should be avoided at all costs. Be also wary of this position even on short naps. Babies can have difficulties in adjusting to the position change, so make sure that your baby always on his back.

Don’t put things on the baby’s bed which can block fresh air. Blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys can get in the way of a good sleep, not to mention get in the way of your child’s breathing. If you want to keep your baby warmed up against a chilly temperature, use a sleep sack instead. But be careful not to overheat your baby. The ideal room temperature is 68 degrees. The best thing to do in an unstable weather is to dress your baby in thin layers so that you can easily remove layers of your baby’s clothing as the temperature gets warmer.
