Computer monitor glare causes eyestrain. And eyestrain can lead to a whole other array of ailments such as headaches, nausea, blurred vision and hampered depth perception. Here are a few tips on cutting back on monitor glare:
Get the best room lighting possible. A mix of overhead light and a desk lamp will create that lighting. Make sure that overhead lighting is dimmed to cut back on glare. This may either mean have light dimmers installed or just using less light bulbs up top.
You may also want to invest on a good monitor. Flat screens are less likely to produce glare than curved ones. One thing that you might want to consider with your monitor is its refresh rate. Flickering can contribute to eyestrain caused by glare. A good monitor should be able to handle a refresh rate of at least 70 Hz.
Buy a glare filter. Or if it’s out of the budget, tape a piece of cardboard on top to “shield” it from glare. Positioning your monitor can also help in reducing glare. Placing it in right angles from a light source will help lessen it.
