How to Remove Scratches and Smudges from CD Using a Banana

Send to Back

You read it. Yes, a banana. This is surely something that would rock the very fiber of my CD cleaning belief that all you need is a clean lint-free cloth and wipe the darned thing from the center outward in a straight line rotating the disc as you go along. But no, this features a real home remedy (and quite organic too) – a banana.

What you need:

  • Banana flesh
  • Banana peel
  • Glass cleaner
  • Lint-free cloth

What to do:

  • Rub the banana flesh on the CD using small circular motions.
  • Spread it with the banana peel. The “wax” on the peel “cleans” the CD.
  • Wipe the banana off with the cloth.
  • Spray some glass cleaner on the CD.
  • Wipe clean and dry.

This works but should NEVER clean the disk in circular motion. Only do it in straight lines… The circling messed up my Mac OS X install disc!
