I know some people who like to keep potted cacti. They’re cute and it doesn’t take much to have them around the house or the apartment. Here are some tips on taking care of your potted cacti.
Water
You may think that cacti are robust plants since they can live , right? But potted cacti are in need of more water than your outdoor cacti. Just make sure that the soil is moist. But don’t overwater!
Cacti need lower pH (a bit acidic) water. Unfortunately, tap water has high pH (alkaline) levels. What you can do is to set aside water for you cacti for 2 days in an open container before using it for watering. This allows some chemicals found in tap to evaporate.
Plant Food
Dilute the plant food. Fertilizers tend to distort your plants. You might also want to re-pot your cactus. A good soil mix is 1 part sharp sand and 1 part peat humus.
Light
With enough light, your potted cactus will surely live and flower. You can place it near a window where it can get ample amount of light. Don’t expose it to bright and burning light. Cacti can get sunburn too!

3I’m not trying to nitpick or anything, but this is full of confusing information. It says that cacti need water with a higher pH, or more acidity, but a higher pH means more basicity, not acidity. A lower pH is less alkaline and more acidic. Also, most of the impurities in tap water are metals from the pipes and wouldn’t evaporate out. The acidity comes from the CO2 in the air which dissolves into the water over time.

8I have a 6 ft cactus that I have been growing for awhile , I have those little spiders that look like cotton .I have been doing what I was told to do which is take water and dishwashing liquid and spray it directly on the white spots and then remove them when they turn brown.I donnot have a hose to spray them off with so they keep coming back plus they are in areas that I can’t get to . What do I do?
