Let soil dry out before re-watering. If you cactus looks sad, uproot it and look for bugs and rot. If bugs, spray with above-mentioned solution. If rot, cut off rotten pieces, lay in shady place to let cut areas callous off (2 + weeks). Then repot DRY. Let sit for 2 weeks, then give a tiny bit of water and sprinkle a little every week until roots take hold then add more water. NEVER water twice befor soil dries out entirely. Rarely water in winter time or you will kill them (dormancy time). If you want flowers, give fertilizer strong in potassium and phospherous and allow a 6 month cool period fall thru winter (necessary for flowers).

I have a 6 ft cactus that I have been growing for awhile , I have those little spiders that look like cotton .I have been doing what I was told to do which is take water and dishwashing liquid and spray it directly on the white spots and then remove them when they turn brown.I donnot have a hose to spray them off with so they keep coming back plus they are in areas that I can't get to . What do I do?

I'm not trying to nitpick or anything, but this is full of confusing information. It says that cacti need water with a higher pH, or more acidity, but a higher pH means more basicity, not acidity. A lower pH is less alkaline and more acidic. Also, most of the impurities in tap water are metals from the pipes and wouldn't evaporate out. The acidity comes from the CO2 in the air which dissolves into the water over time.
