After more than a decade of being the richest man in the world, Bill Gates is now relegated to the number two spot. The new guy - Carlos Slim Helu, the Mexican tycoon.

By the latest estimates of total assets, Slim is now worth $67.8 B which places him ahead of former number two Warren Buffet, and even richer than the old guy, Bill Gates whose assets total $59.2 B.

It’s amazing how Mr. Slim’s fortune is equivalent to 8% of Mexico’s GDP which if happened in the US would be worth more than three quarters of a trillion dollars! The sudden surge of Mr. Slim’s assets came from the skyrocketing stock value of America Movil for the the 2nd quarter of the year which rose by 27% compared to Microsoft’s 5.7%.
