Google first broke the mold of measly 2-10 MBs of mailbox space a few years ago by offering 2 GBs (and counting) of space. Now, about a couple or so years of having Gmail as the king of mailbox spaces, Yahoo shook things up by offering unlimited mailbox space to subscribers. Windows Live Hotmail service tries to get in the mix by bumping mailbox space to 5GB.

While mailbox space is one of major reasons for my jump to Gmail (I was formerly a Yahoo user), but given my experiences, I would now consider the overall service (or variety of services) as basis of my choice. Gmail currently stands at 2.89 GB, possibly the most meager space compared to the other two and I have no plans of jumping. For one, I’ve already consolidated everything to my Google Account - Mail, Docs and Spreadsheets, Reader, and AdSense. So getting a few more services on top of the mail service redefines the advantages of using web mail now.
