If you’ve watched the Bruce Willis movie, Armageddon, then you probably know the dilemma that I’m pointing out - the end of the world by some idiot space rock who wants to do a fender-bender with earth.

The latest known rock is the asteroid Apophis, named after an Egyptian god of chaos, has, by space geek estimates, a 1-to-45,000 chance of colliding with Earth in 2036.

Good thing, IT systems in the hands of our benevolent space geeks spawned a collaborative called the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST). It involves universities and national labs with the aim to build build a large telescope on a 8,800-foot mountain peak, Cerro Pachon, in Chile. This, thus, increases the chances of finding more of those idiot space rocks.

Hey, coincidentally, I posted this for star-watching enthusiasts.
