Kid Riding a Bike

Biking is a good activity—whether for exercise or as a means of transportation. Last time, we’ve posted a how-to on learning the art of bicycling. But there has always been one important rule when getting on a bicycle – wear a helmet. It is a prudent safety measure that will protect your brain from great damage when you get an accident.

Helmet size. You’ll know a helmet is for you when it fits snugly on your head. There are several types of helmets, but it is good to invest on a helmet which has extra padding or those which has a protective gear for your head. It might cost more, but it’s the helmet you really need. Helmet tip: Some helmets have the shape of a protective dome. These are good for your kids. Make sure it has a thick foam lining for comfort and straps which are easy to cinch so they remain secured on your child’s head. Some helmets do not cover the head completely and some have more holes for ventilation. You can opt for these if you want more air.

Secure the straps. Cinch the straps tightly. You’ll know when a helmet is secure when the buckle is snug beneath your chin. Try opening your mouth. Your helmet should pull down slightly as you do this.

Helmet position. Position helmet so that the front part rests about less than 1 inch above your eyebrows.
