Pregnant

Expecting moms have a very delicate condition. They have to be in tiptop shape, and they have to be healthy in both aspects – emotionally, physically, etc. Recently, a scientific study found that women who have uterine fibroids are at risk to have a C-section, breech birth, preterm birth and severe postbirth bleeding.

Usually, fibroids aren’t detected until the first sonogram but it occurs to almost 77 percent of women in the US. Fibroids are benign tumors that thrive in the uterus wall. This could lead to major health problems to both baby and mom. Fibroids can change the baby’s position in the womb which can cause delivery problems.

Fibroids can be painful. Some of these benign tumors gain size and outgrow their blood supply as the uterus expands. Statistics show that fibroid complications are rare, but it’s always a precaution to have yourself checked when you’re a mom-to-be.

Childbirth is hard enough as it is without having benign tumors growing in your uterus wall. Ask your ob-gyn to schedule frequent prenatal visits. You can monitor the fibroids’ change in size and location through ultrasound. On top of it all you should be conscious of your body. Talk to your doctor about episodes of any abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding or preterm contractions.
