Uh… Okay. The Wall Street Journal reports that Google’s storage service is just around the corner.
Google is preparing a service that would let users store on its computers essentially all of the files they might keep on their personal-computer hard drives — such as word-processing documents, digital music, video clips and images, say people familiar with the matter. The service could let users access their files via the Internet from different computers and mobile devices when they sign on with a password, and share them online with friends. It could be released as early as a few months from now, one of the people said.
Let’s just review that - a few months from now.
While I really love to see Google expand their already extensive list of services, I wouldn’t hold my breath until it gets launched. But don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see this service launched. While there are still some limitations to Google Docs, a storage service may just yet be the icing on top of the cake (or the cherry perhaps). Right now Google Mail and Google Docs serve as my online storage of several files that I need to access anywhere. With a separate facility for storage, Google could provide true Swiss army knife of online utilities.
A few key questions that can intrigue those already intrigued by this news - 1) How much storage will they offer? 2) Will there any bandwidth limitations? 3)Will there be any file size and type restrictions?
‘Cause if you web baddies are thinking what I’m thinking? This may just yet be the ultimate P2P sharing facility yet.
