Health buffs were always up at arms against soda. It’s a proven bit that concentrated Coke is acidic enough to bust metal. But what’s this soda companies are trying to get out? Healthy cola?
Coke and Pepsi will be coming out with new carbonated drinks that are “fortified” with vitamins and minerals, which, according to news will be called “Diet Coke Plus” and “Tava”.
But, instead of being called colas and sodas, they’d be called “sparkling beverages.” Like that makes any difference. I guess it’s the soda industry’s revenge for the drop of sales after massive campaigns that linked sodas with obesity.
Here’s what other people have to say about this:
Tom Pirko, president of Bevmark, a food and beverage consulting firm, said it was “a joke” to market artificially sweetened soft drinks as healthy, even if they were fortified with vitamins and minerals. Research by his firm and others shows that consumers think of diet soft drinks as “the antithesis of healthy,” he said.
Anyway, sodas will always be bad news for me. I lessened my intake to even less than once a month I think. I fear obesity and diabetes and by the amount of sugar colas have in them, I’m staying away from them even if they become to be called “sparkling beverages.”
