The scuttlebutt has now been confirmed, Web giant Google is acquiring Feedburner, the RSS management service that lets users keep track of RSS feed subscriptions even monetize it through ads. TechCrunch wrote the following story:
Rumors about Google acquiring RSS management company Feedburner from last week, started by ex-TechCrunch UK editor Sam Sethi, are accurate and are now confirmed according to a source close to the deal. Feedburner is in the closing stages of being acquired by Google for around $100 million. The deal is all cash and mostly upfront, according to our source, although the founders will be locked in for a couple of years.
With this news, we’ll probably expecting more out of Feedburner, especially with the advertisements and monetization. While many have voiced their concerns over Adsense for feeds, this acquisition of Feedburner might just be the ticket to that.
I’ve been using Feedburner for my personal blog and it’s really a great service. RSS is a great way to make sure you get read. And with this acquisition we just might have a new way to make money out of our content. RSS hasn’t been that friendly since feeds rarely include ads. In any case, we’ll just have to wait and see.
