With the roll out of the high definition video players, it’s the time for buyers to choose on which format to bank on much like choosing between Beta and VHS back in the day.
If price will be the factor, it seems like HD-DVD will get an advantage as Blu-ray players still cost so much. Buying a PS3 is a more comforting alternative – you get a Blu-ray player and game console in one with a $300 mark down from a stand-alone Blu-ray player.
As far as I see it, porn wouldn’t be a factor for now given two reasons 1) Sony’s no Blu-ray porn policy nullified by 2) HD’s unfriendliness to the adult industry.
It’ll all be a matter of time to see which one wins. But does the consumer lose in the end? Maybe not. Depreciation happens real fast. When the time comes when we have to raise the champ’s arms, players’ prices would have been marked down significantly. So eventually we can have both anyway.
Here’s a good review of a head-to-head comparison of an HD-DVD player, Sony PS3 and a Blu-ray Player.
