And yet another complaint against. It’s funny. I remember back in the great transition from Windows 98 to XP, there weren’t too many problems in backward compatibility. But Vista isn’t making loving it an easy thing to do.
First it was the specs. Then it was the cost. I was expecting businesses and other developers to whine (which they have done) but without much buzz. But, now Vista has earned the ire of one of the most vocal communities online - the gaming community.
Vista was boasting that it was going to revolutionize gaming with DirectX 10 but it seems like it’s not making gamers happy. It has, however, started a whine revolution. Instead of delivering the promise of outstanding graphics, Vista’s problems with running older games like Counterstrike, Half-Life 2, and Doom 3. And it’s been taboo to violate cult classics.
Here are some quips from the Nvidia forums:
“Formatted PC, installed Vista, updated any drivers possible. Now half [of my] games will not run, or run with corrupt graphics.”
“You installed Vista. You deserve your problems. Heh.”
We have yet to see newly developed games that would maximize the use of DirectX 10 but that would probably still be later this year. For the meantime, gamers who have thrown away XP for Vista might just have to petition for patches and fixes. If these please are to no avail, then we could just whine all we want because Vista said so.
